Plan it, fly it, score it#

Where Cross Country XC

The XC section is built on one idea: you should never have to submit a flight anywhere. Every public flight you log is scored automatically the moment parsing finishes, and it counts towards every challenge, league and record board it qualifies for.

The hub page at /cross-country is the entrance. It shows the latest activity, the current record watch, and a card for each of the five areas.

How a flight becomes points#

Every flight is measured four ways and keeps the best result. Each type has a factor, and the points are the scored distance multiplied by it.

Type What counts Factor
Open distance Straight line from the start to the farthest point 1.0
Free distance (3 TP) Distance over up to three turnpoints 1.0
Flat triangle A closed triangle of any shape 1.2
FAI triangle A closed triangle with every leg at least 28 percent of the perimeter 1.4

So a 100 km FAI triangle scores 140 points and a 100 km straight line scores 100. The FAI triangle is the queen of XC flying and the scoring says so.

Note

The factors above are the defaults. A league can define its own points per kilometer, so the same flight can be worth different amounts on different boards. The league page always states its own scoring.

Caution

Only public flights score. If a flight is private it is invisible to every board on the site, and making it public later scores it into the year it was flown.
