11Analyzing a day

The analyzer that rebuilds a day of flying from live tracking: who flew, where they went, and the IGC files to prove it.

What the analyzer is for#

Where Flight Analyzer

The flight analyzer works from live tracking, not from uploads. If a group of pilots flew with live tracking on, the analyzer can rebuild the day for the whole group even if nobody has uploaded a single IGC file yet.

That makes it the tool for a club day, a training camp or a retrieve debrief: pick the group, pick the day, and every flight is there with its track and its numbers.

Caution

Live positions are archived for seven days. After that the day is gone from the analyzer, and only the flights somebody actually uploaded remain. If a day matters, upload it.

Working through a day#

  1. Open the analyzer from your buddy group, or from /flight-analyzer with the group in the address.
  2. Pick a date under Select day. Days with no data are not offered.
  3. The map draws every flight of that day and the sidebar lists them.
  4. Select one pilot to see their track highlighted, their barogram under the map and their statistics in the sidebar.
  5. Download all IGC takes the whole day as files, or the button next to a single pilot takes just theirs.

The statistics per flight are distance, duration, maximum altitude, total gain, maximum vario, average speed and circling percentage. Recenter puts the map back on the day after you have zoomed into a thermal.

Note

The IGC files produced here are generated from the live positions. They are perfectly good tracks, but live tracking sends fewer fixes than an onboard recorder, so an uploaded IGC from the instrument is always the better record of the flight.

Analyzing a competition day#

Competitions have their own analyzer, showing a whole task day with every pilot on it, their scores and a synchronized replay. It is public and needs no account. It is covered in Competition analysis.
