Creating an account#

Where Register

The registration form is deliberately short. Everything else about you, your pilot name, your country, your glider, is filled in later on your pilot profile and can stay empty until you need it.

  1. Open /register.
  2. Enter your email address. It is your login name, so use one you will keep.
  3. Choose a password. It needs at least eight characters, with one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and one number.
  4. Repeat the password in Confirm Password.
  5. Tick the box confirming that you accept the terms and the privacy policy.
  6. Submit the form.

As you type, the requirement list under the field ticks off each rule, so you can see the password is accepted before you submit it.

You then get an email with a confirmation link. Until you click it the account exists but cannot sign in. If the link does not arrive, check the spam folder first: the mail comes from the site's no reply address and some providers file it away.

Note

Some sites also require an administrator to approve new accounts. If that is switched on, you see a message after confirming your email telling you to wait, and a second email arrives when an administrator has approved you.

Caution

Registration can be closed temporarily. If you see Registration is currently closed, please check back later! the site is not accepting new accounts right now, and nothing you do differently will change that.

Signing in#

Where Login

Sign in with the email address and password you registered with. Remember me on this device keeps you signed in on that browser after you close it, which is what you want on your own machine and not what you want on a shared one.

The eye button at the end of the password field shows what you typed, which is quicker than starting over when a sign in fails.

After a successful sign in the site sends you somewhere. Where depends on the login redirect setting: back to the page you were on, to the home page, or straight to a chosen page or profile section. Organizers often set it to land on their competition dashboard.

If the site has two factor authentication switched on, a six digit code is emailed to you after the password step and you have three minutes to type it in. The code is single use. Getting it wrong repeatedly cancels the attempt and you start again from the login form.

Tip

Two factor authentication is a site wide setting, not a personal one. If you never see a code, it is simply not enabled on this installation.

Forgotten password#

  1. On the login page, follow the password reset link.
  2. Enter the email address of the account.
  3. The page confirms the mail is on its way and stays there, so you can ask for another link or correct the address without going back.
  4. Check your inbox for the reset mail and follow the link inside it.
  5. Set a new password. The same rules apply as at registration.

Note

The confirmation always reads Check your inbox whether or not the address is registered. That is intentional: it stops the form being used to find out who has an account here.

Account settings#

Where Profile › My profile

My profile is the account itself, as opposed to your pilot profile. It holds the handful of fields the whole site uses to know who you are.

Name
The name shown next to your posts, comments and flights when you have not set a pilot nickname. Set it once. Competitions match your registration against it, so use the name you compete under.
Email address
Your login name and where every notification goes. Changing it sends a confirmation link to the new address. The change only takes effect when you follow that link, so a typo cannot lock you out.
Phone number
Optional. Never shown on a public page. Useful if you fly competitions, where organizers may need to reach you.
Avatar
The picture next to your name across the site, on the live map and on your flights. Any PNG, JPG or GIF above the minimum size. Reset Avatar puts the default back.
About me
A short free text shown on your public profile. Optional. A line about where you fly is enough.
Language
The language the site uses for you. Independent of the app's language setting.
Public profile
Visible or invisible
Whether other people can open your profile page at all. Personal data such as your email address and phone number are never published either way. Turn it off if you want to fly and upload without a public page. Your published flights stay public: this only controls the profile page itself.

Signing out and deleting the account#

Logout sits at the bottom of the profile sidebar and ends the session on that browser.

Where Profile › Delete Profile

Deleting the account removes your access to everything behind the login and takes your data with it. It is not a pause button and there is no undo.

Important

If you organize a competition or own an organization, hand those over before deleting the account. A competition whose owner disappears is a problem for every pilot registered on it.
