How challenges work#

Where XC Challenges

A challenge has a goal, an optional flight type restriction and a time window. Join it, and your public flights count automatically. Nothing needs to be submitted, and the standings update the moment you land and your flight finishes parsing.

The challenge page shows the goal, the deadline, the participants, the standings, your own progress towards the goal, and who is closest to reaching it.

The five goals#

Goal What you have to do
Total distance (km) Every counting flight adds its best distance. Reach the target total.
Total points Every counting flight adds its points, distance times the type factor. Reach the target total.
Total airtime (hours) Your airtime adds up. Reach the target number of hours.
Number of flights Simply log the target number of counting flights.
Single triangle (km) One single flight must contain a triangle of at least the target size.

For the distance, points and airtime goals a challenge can also set Best N flights, which limits how many flights count: only your N best contribute to the total. Set to zero, all of them count.

What can be restricted#

Flight types
Open distance, Free distance (3 TP), Flat triangle, FAI triangle
Only flights whose best score is one of the ticked types count. Tick nothing and any type counts. Tick FAI only, and you have a triangle season.
Glider classes
Restricts the challenge to certain wing classes. Tick nothing and all classes are welcome. Useful for an EN-B only club challenge.
Only from these takeoffs
Only flights launched from the listed sites count. Perfect for a club challenge on its home mountains. Leave it empty to count flights from anywhere.
Routes to fly
Attaches public planner routes. The goal then becomes flying each attached route through its 400 m turnpoint cylinders, in order. For a set of named lines rather than a distance total. Attached routes stay public and cannot be deleted while the challenge exists.

Joining a challenge#

Most challenges are open: press Join challenge and you are in. Your public flights count from your next landing, and past flights inside the window count too where the challenge allows it.

Some challenges are moderated. Then the button reads Request to join, you can add a short message, and the organizer approves or declines it. Until they do, the page shows Request pending.

Leave challenge takes you off the board again. Your flights are not deleted, they simply stop counting there.

Note

Joining is free and needs only an account. If you are signed out the button reads Log in to join.

Creating a challenge#

Creating challenges requires a SkyTrackPlus membership. Press Create challenge and fill in the form.

  1. Name the challenge and set the window it runs in.
  2. Pick the goal and its target, and set Best N flights if you want to cap how many flights count.
  3. Restrict flight types, glider classes or takeoffs if you want to. Leave them empty for an open challenge.
  4. Optionally attach public planner routes under Routes to fly.
  5. Write the Rules and, if there is anything to win, What you can win.
  6. Decide whether to approve pilots before they join. You get an email for each request.
  7. Save. The challenge appears in the list and pilots can join it.

Caution

Deleting a challenge cannot be undone, and it takes the standings with it. Closing the window is usually what you want instead: the board freezes and stays readable.
