Where things land#

The site talks to you in three places, and it helps to know which is which.

Notification lists
On your dashboard, one per module: forum notifications and classifieds notifications.
Message inboxes
Conversations. Forum private messages under Messages, ad conversations under the classifieds Inbox.
Email
Anything that needs to reach you when you are not on the site: competition status changes, invites, records and reminders.

What the site emails you#

Email Sent when
Account confirmation You register, and when you change your email address.
Password reset You ask for one.
Two factor code You sign in, where the site has two factor authentication enabled.
New comment on your flight Someone comments on a flight you published.
Buddy group invite A pilot invites you to their group.
New record One of your flights takes a record board.
Challenge and league events Depending on the challenge, for example a join request if you organize one.
Competition registration Every status change on an entry: submitted, missing information, waitlisted, payment requested, confirmed, rejected, canceled or refunded.
Missing track reminder A competition asks you to upload a track you have not uploaded.
Event broadcast An organizer sends a message to everyone registered.
Membership reminders Thirty days and seven days before a paid membership expires, and a receipt after a payment.

Note

Competition emails are written by the organizer from their own templates, so their tone and content vary from event to event. The trigger is always one of the statuses above.

Turning things down#

There is no single master switch, because the different kinds come from different places. Each has its own control.

Forum notifications
Every type can be switched off individually under Forum settings. Start with reactions if the forum gets noisy. Keep mentions and replies on.
Discussions you follow
Unfollow the discussion and its notifications stop. For the one thread that will not end.
Classifieds saved searches
Turn off Email me when new matches show up on the saved search itself. Once you have bought the thing.
Competition emails
They stop when you are no longer registered. Withdrawing an entry ends them. There is no partial opt out: an event needs to be able to reach its pilots.
Buddy group invites
Reject the invite, or leave the group. Rejecting does not notify the person who invited you.

Tip

If the site's mail is not arriving at all, check the spam folder first and add the sender address to your contacts. Everything is sent from the site's no reply address, which is exactly the kind of address mail providers like to file away.
