What an organization is#

Where Profile Organizations

An organization is a club, a school, a team or an event series: a container that owns things instead of a single pilot owning them. Tasks, waypoint groups, shared files and competitions can all belong to an organization, and every member with the right role can work on them.

It is also what makes a competition possible: a public competition is always run by an organization, not by a person.

Note

Organization management requires SkyTrackPlus or higher. If you upload a flight with no organization at all, a personal workspace is created for you automatically so the flight has somewhere to live.

Creating one#

  1. Press the create button on the Organizations tab.
  2. Enter the Name. Use the official club or organization name.
  3. Enter the Slug, which becomes its address. Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, and it must be unique.
  4. Set the branding: a primary and a secondary color, and a logo as PNG or JPEG.
  5. Save.

The branding is used on the organization's public page and on the competitions it runs, so a club event looks like the club rather than like the platform.

Caution

The slug is the public address. Changing it later breaks every link anyone has saved, so pick it carefully the first time. The site refuses duplicates with An organization with this slug already exists.

Members and roles#

Members are invited by the email address of their existing account. No public directory of users is exposed: the email is only used to find the account.

Role Can
Owner Everything, including deleting the organization and managing members.
Admin Everything except ownership: content, competitions and members.
Editor Create and edit the organization's tasks, waypoints and files.
Viewer See the organization's internal content without changing it.

Only owners and admins can add or remove members. The member panel shows the current count per role, so you can see at a glance who has real power over the club's content.

Tip

Anyone who manages an organization is automatically treated as a full manager of the competitions it runs. That is often simpler than adding the same people as staff on every event.

Shared files#

Where Profile Files

Shared files are the documents an event or a club hands out: briefings, local rules, waypoint packs, airspace files and results. They belong to the organization and can be attached to a competition.

File Title
What pilots see in the file list. Name it the way a pilot would look for it, not the way your file system does.
Category
Briefing Document, Local Rules, Waypoint Pack, Airspace File, Obstacle, Results, Other File
Groups the file in the list and tells pilots what it is. Always. An uncategorized pile of PDFs is what you are trying to avoid.
Visibility
Who can download it: the organization only, or the public. A competition can restrict a file further, for example only to confirmed pilots.

The file list shows the size, the type, the upload date, the last modified date and a download counter, so you can tell whether anyone actually read the briefing.

Caution

Shared files require SkyTrackPlus or higher, and they count against the organization's storage quota.

The public organization page#

Where Clubs & Organizations

/clubs-and-organizations is the public directory: every organization on the site, searchable by name or slug, sortable by activity, name or newest, with the number of public tasks, shared files and waypoint groups each one has.

Each organization then has its own page carrying its branding, its member count, and everything it has published:

  • The published task feed, filterable by year and by competition.
  • Public waypoint groups, ready to download.
  • Shared downloads.
  • The competitions it runs.

It is the page a club sends new members to, and the one an organizer links from a competition entry.
