Getting started
3Roles and access
Why you see the competitions you see, what makes the Driver tab appear, who can read the Live Ops feed, and what to ask the organizer for when something is missing.
Where your access comes from#
The app never grants access by itself. Every competition in the dropdown is one where the organizer has put your account on the staff list on the competition website. Add someone to the staff there and the competition appears in their app on the next refresh. Remove them and it disappears.
That list is cached on the phone, so the dropdown still works offline. It refreshes on sign in, on Refresh all, on pull to refresh, and whenever the phone comes back online.
Note
No competitions available yet. means exactly one thing: the account you signed in with is not staff on any competition yet. It is not a network problem and not a bad password.
The retrieve driver capability#
The Driver tab is not a setting you can turn on. It appears only when your staff entry for the selected competition carries the retrieve driver capability, and it disappears again when you switch to a competition where you do not have it.
Because it is per competition, a driver at one event is an ordinary scanner at the next one, with the same account and the same app. If the tab is missing, ask the organizer to mark you as a retrieve driver, then pull to refresh.
The same capability decides who can be given a pilot to collect: the driver picker in Live Ops lists exactly the people who carry it. Somebody who is not on that list cannot be assigned a retrieve, however available they are.
Caution
Switching competition while you are sharing your position stops the sharing and clears your pickup list, because both belong to one competition. Turn sharing back on after the switch.
Who can read the Live Ops feed#
The Live Ops feed is staff only. Pilot status messages, their coordinates and, on an SOS, their emergency contact are visible to competition staff and nobody else. If you can read the feed for a competition, the organizer put you on its staff.
Important
Treat the feed accordingly. An emergency contact number belongs to a family member who did not agree to be in anyone's call log. Use it for the emergency it was given for, and for nothing else.
What you can change, and what only the organizer can#
| You, in this app | Only the organizer, on the website |
|---|---|
| Record a scan for a category | Create or rename a category, or delete a scan |
| Acknowledge a status message | Publish or stop a task |
| Assign a retrieve driver to a pilot, and hand them over | Give somebody the retrieve driver capability in the first place |
| Confirm a pilot pickup | Undo a pickup, or delete a retrieve request |
| Share your position as a driver | Register a pilot, or fix their photo and comp ID |
There is no undo in the app for anything in the left column. A scan you confirm by mistake, or a pickup you confirm too early, has to be corrected by the organizer on the website. That is why the confirmation screens exist: read them before you tap.
Signing out, and handing the phone on#
Logout in the menu clears the stored session and returns you to the sign in screen. It also stops position sharing and clears the live state.
Caution
Logging out does not delete the cached pilot lists and photos on the phone, and it does not send a queue that has not synced yet. Before handing a shared phone to the next shift, sync the queue first, and check that Pending and Failed are at zero.
