Scanning pilots
7The pilot list and scan history
Looking a pilot up without scanning them, and reading the competition's record of every scan they have been through.
Opening the pilot list#
Tapping the Pilots chip opens the Pilots screen: every pilot registered for the selected competition, with their name, their pilot ID, their registration number and their country.
The list is loaded from the server when you have a connection, and from the phone's cache when you do not. In the cached case a banner reads Showing cached pilots., which is your reminder that a pilot who registered in the last hour may be missing. Pull down to reload, which forces a fresh copy from the server.
Finding one pilot#
The search field matches on three things at once: the pilot's name, their pilot ID and their registration number. Type any of them, in any part, and the list narrows as you type.
No pilots match this search. means only that: the filter found nothing. No pilots available for this competition. means the list itself is empty, which is a sync problem rather than a search problem.
Tip
The list is the fastest way to answer "is this pilot registered at all" when their QR code will not read. Search the name, and if they are there, the organizer can fix the code.
A pilot's scan history#
Tapping a pilot opens Pilot scan history: the competition's own record of every scan on that pilot, up to the most recent fifty, newest first.
Each entry gives the category, and under it four lines:
Caution
This screen needs internet, always. It reads the server, not the phone. Offline you get Pilot scan history requires internet. and a Retry button.
This is the screen to open when a pilot says they already checked in, or when two staff members are not sure whether a gate has been recorded. It is the competition's record, not this phone's, so it includes scans made by everyone on the team.
History against Recent activity#
| Recent activity | Pilot scan history | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | On this phone | On the server |
| What it covers | What this phone scanned | What the whole team scanned |
| Offline | Works | Does not work |
| Shows queued scans | Yes, as Queued | No, not until they upload |
Note
A scan sitting in the queue appears in Recent activity and not in the pilot's history. That is not a bug, and it is the clearest reason to keep Pending at zero.
